Funding in Austria — how it works in practice
In Austria, digitalization funding is very real. You get a clean implementation (IT/Security/Web) — and part of the cost can be reimbursed by programs if the order of steps is correct.
1) Model: “We deliver — funding reduces your net cost”
- KMU.DIGITAL is a common baseline for SMEs: digitalization, online marketing, e‑commerce, IT implementation.
- Typical outcomes are partial reimbursements (e.g. ~30% for implementation) — depending on the module and current rules.
- Important: in many cases a prior consultation by a Certified Digital Consultant (CDC) is required. We work with CDC partners or structure the project so it fits.
2) New business setup + NeuFöG
- For first-time business setups (WKO), NeuFöG can reduce certain fees/charges (case-dependent).
3) Other programs (equipment / innovation / training)
- AWS (Austria Wirtschaftsservice): programs like pre‑seed / digitalization — innovation can have high support rates.
- Regional agencies (e.g., Vienna Business Agency): grants for digitalization, infrastructure, hardware — depending on the region.
- Digi‑Scheck: funded training (often covering a large share of costs).
4) Quick win — avoid funding pitfalls
- Check: goals, baseline, eligibility.
- Submit the application before project start and contract signature (otherwise funding may be lost).
- Implement: IT/Security/Web + optional funnel/marketing.
- Prepare documentation and evidence so it’s audit‑ready.
